New Year, New You? The impact of Diet Culture in the Therapy Room
Monday 27th January 2025 - this workshop is now over but you can purchase the recording here.
The new year can amplify diet culture, heightening body image concerns and disordered eating risks. This 2-hour workshop unpacks the impact of diet culture and weight stigma, explores assumptions/biases and the impact in the therapy room, and offers practical ways to support clients.
Mel was confident, eloquent and knowledgeable in the subject and provided a wealth of thought provoking insights and experiences. Mel gave a strong overview of the issues around disordered eating and kept us engaged and excited by the topic. The perfect workshop.

Reflections on working with perpetrators of domestic abuse, with Online Events
A one-hour talk on my experiences and reflections on working with perpetrators of abuse, and how we can use these lessons to create a more compassionate world. This event is now over but you can purchase a recording here.
Thank you for making such a complex subject so accessible. Your compassion and understanding for people in larger bodies shines through. I really value the holding of this in the political sphere too - I’m looking forward to learning more from you.

Disordered eating and body image issues are so widespread, counsellors are highly likely to come across this in their work. Many people face stigma based on their body size and appearance. Eating disorders are on the rise and treatment services are struggling to accommodate the demand. Many people don’t fit the diagnostic criteria, leaving those struggling with eating and body image to seek out help elsewhere, or cope alone.
In this workshop, we’ll explore disordered eating and body image, and the impact of weight stigma and other intersecting forms of identity (class, gender, disability etc). We’ll look at the wider social and cultural factors, taking a “big picture” approach to understand the context of disordered eating, as well as ways we can help challenge our personal biases and assumptions, and in turn help support others.
