Overview
This entry level 2-hour online training for professionals offers an understanding of eating disorders and disordered eating, and the difference between the two, as well as looking at the impact of weight stigma, and body image problems.
This is not just your usual eating disorder awareness training! Some can be more of a basic overview of the main eating disorders, with a bit of myth busting (which is still absolutely useful) but I wanted to delve a little deeper, and wider... This training takes a big picture approach to understanding the causes and influences on the development of eating disorders, the impact of current services and waiting lists, and the impact of intersecting aspects of identity, and neurodiversity.
This training is ideal to fit within the scope of diversity and inclusion training, advocating for size and weight inclusion and highlighting awareness of appearance-based discrimination, especially those in minoritized groups who are often left out of eating disorder literature and treatment.
I speak from both lived experience and professional experience, having had a difficult relationship with my body and food in the past, and from working with eating disorder charities for several years in a number of roles. I am now a counsellor in private practice, working with people with eating disorders, disordered eating and those who are impacted by body image issues and weight stigma. You can find out more about my counselling practice here.
Who is it for?
Anyone who may benefit from having a basic understanding of what eating disorders are (and are not!), how body image problems affects peoples lives, and how weight stigma and weight biases impact people too. This may be counsellors, therapists, holistic therapists, teachers, nutritionists, healthcare professionals, and much more. The training can be adapted to fit the needs of your team.
